World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria : All Races Available in v5.0.4 World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria : All Races Available in v5.0.4

The World of Warcraft community page has been updated with the news that when patch v5.0.4 is released on August 28th, all races will be available to players.
With the release of patch 5.0.4, we’re making all the races of Azeroth playable by anyone, no matter which version or expansion of World of Warcraft they own. This includes the enigmatic pandaren, who will become available for play when Mists of Pandaria is released on Tuesday, September 25. We want the entire World of Warcraft community to be able to embrace their inner goblin, blood elf, worgen, draenei, or pandaren from the moment they step foot into the world of Azeroth.

The Secret World : Location Preview – The Carpathian Fangs The Secret World : Location Preview – The Carpathian Fangs

Funcom has partnered with MMORPG.com to bring our readers exclusive first looks at locations throughout The Secret World. In our latest launch day edition, we head to Transylvania to preview the very mysterious Carpathian Fangs. See what you think and then leave us a few comments!
As the players enter the Carpathian Fangs, they also climb to the peak of the story mission. After a long journey through the zombie apocalypse in New England and the rise of the Sun God in Egypt; after fighting their way through the vampire frontlines of the besieged farmlands and the fairytale darkness of the shadowy forest, they now stand face to face with the consequences of that journey.

Community Building & Paper Worshipping Community Building & Paper Worshipping

One of Funcom’s most laudable goals with The Secret World is to keep players engaged both in and out of game as the recent ARG (Alternative Reality Game) event showed. We’ve got an interesting take on the ARG that is worth the read so hop through the jump to see what it’s all about.
Let’s start at the beginning. The Secret War was a somewhat underwhelming Facebook game that scored the people taking part access to the beta weekends and some pretty cool in-game items. However as it drew to a close we received a link to a strange console like interface. From this humble beginning that took all of twenty minutes or so to solve we started an odyssey that would see puzzles spanning days and therapist bills in the thousands.

What’s for Sale and What’s at Stake What’s for Sale and What’s at Stake

Cash shops in our MMOs are fast becoming the norm whether in free to play titles or in full blow subscription titles. In today’s Devil’s Advocate, we take a look at the phenomenon and its repercussions. See what you think and then discuss it in the comments.

One path taken by a good number of online game developers these days is the cash shop route, and today’s Devil’s Advocate seeks to discuss whether there are legitimate concerns to be had in certain cash shop practices. We’ll look at some practices that have occurred in recent years, and discuss how these practices have shaped the MMORPG landscape and what you can do to alter the landscape yourself.

our latest official review. our latest official review.

We’re putting Pirates of the Caribbean Online through its paces in our latest official review.
In Pirates of the Caribbean Online, players become pirates sailing the Caribbean in the time period of the movies. Many of the characters of the movies exist within the game, complete with likenesses of the actors, and serve as quest givers to provide direction during your looting and pillaging. Fans of the movies will find that characters, places and ships from the movies are abundant and help bring the game to life, but there is fun to be had for players new to the series as well. While possessing a number of flaws, Pirates of the Caribbean Online still serves as an entertaining way for pirate fans, especially younger fans, to get their daily dose of plundering.

Guild Wars 2 : TMORBG: Recounting the Asura in Guild Wars 2 BWE #3 Guild Wars 2 : TMORBG: Recounting the Asura in Guild Wars 2 BWE #3

TemperHoof is back with his latest entry to his “Temper’s Massively Overblown Ranting Blog [about] Gaming” blog here at MMORPG.com. His latest entry, as you might imagine, focuses on his play of the asura during this past weekend’s beta event in Guild Wars 2.

Once upon a time there was a race of short, stubby little Care Bear-like creatures. The magical geniuses of their world, they perfected the lost art of summoning and created golems with silly names. Their city was complex and difficult to navigate yet a true splendor to behold with a unique appearance and a nifty implementation. They often considered themselves the most brilliant of all the races, and despite their small size they made up for it with massive amounts of magical power and attitude. That’s right I’m talking about the Tarutaru; Final Fantasy XI’s premier short-but-powerful playable race.

Anyone who has played Final Fantasy XI can easily find the similarities between the two races, and since I was a resident of the Federation of Windurst for 9-years — it’s very difficult for me to ignore them. When I first hopped into Guild Wars 2 this weekend, the first thing I did was attempt to make a classic Tarutaru character known as Shantotto. For Final Fantasy XI fans she is best known for her manic magical exploits and her signature condescending laugh. Making a Tarutaru just felt right for me, and when I got into the game there was a similar feeling and handling.

World Event: Attack on Theramore Isle

Warchief Garrosh, obsessed with assuring the Horde’s supremacy over Kalimdor, launches an all-out attack against Jaina’s island home of Theramore. Though valiant Alliance defenders rush to repel the sudden onslaught, they’ll soon find themselves unprepared for the terrible scope of Garrosh’s true plans…

In the Public Test Realm, we will be testing this event at specified intervals. Keep an eye on our PTR Feedback forum for more details as they become available.

AOE Looting

Area of effect looting comes to World of Warcraft with this patch. After killing a group of enemies in close proximity, when you loot one of their corpses, the loot window will include items from all of the nearby corpses for which you have loot rights.

Dynamic Events Dynamic Events

In Guild Wars 2, your actions really matter and your choices have an impact on the world around you. Instead of static, boring quests in an unchanging world, our dynamic event system creates a living, breathing world that bustles with energy and responds to player actions.

Dynamic events change and evolve in response to how you interact with them, leaving lasting effects in the game world. If you save that village from ogres, they may return with siege weapons to counter attack or regroup in nearby caves. You can prevent bandits from destroying a town’s water supply or you can defend the workers who repair the damaged pumps. As in real life, every action has a consequence—intended or not.

We created dynamic events to encourage casual group play and cooperation between players. They are designed to scale in difficulty depending on how many players interact with them.

Plus, you won’t be penalized for teaming up with your fellow players to take on a pack of savage grawl or a rampaging drake broodmother—you’ll receive just as much experience as everyone else who participated. This creates an atmosphere where players naturally cooperate instead of competing with one another. The more the merrier!
